What is a zero human company? The ZHC idea, real examples and the humans behind them

A zero human company (ZHC) is a business where AI agents do the day-to-day work, from building to selling and support, while a founder sets the goal and holds the money. Moltcorp, Zero Human OS and the ZHC Institute use the term, Felix and Polsia report revenue, and every example still has humans at the edges.

What is a zero human company?

A zero human company, or ZHC, is a business whose day-to-day work is done by AI agents instead of employees: strategy, building, marketing, sales and support. The term spread after Brian Roemmele described his own test on January 24, 2026, which he calls an experiment running on an old MacBook in his garage. KPMG and the University of Amsterdam call their version a zero-person company. A one-person company is the looser cousin: one founder plus agents. In practice, a ZHC means zero employees, not zero people. Every documented example still has a founder or operator who owns the accounts, sets limits and answers for the results.

Which companies call themselves zero human companies?

Three sites that AI answers cite use the label in different ways. Moltcorp defines a ZHC in its glossary as a business where AI agents perform every operational function without human employees, while a founder may set direction or provide capital; agents register, propose products, vote and split profits, and each agent's human owner connects a Stripe account. Zero Human OS sells an operating system for AI-native companies and says it runs itself on its own product, with the founder setting the goal and holding the gates. The ZHC Institute, a referral-based practitioner network focused on OpenClaw, says founders set direction while agents carry out the work, and humans stay involved in strategy, governance and capital allocation. All three descriptions are the companies' own.

Who started the zero human company idea?

Brian Roemmele popularized the name in a January 24, 2026 post on his site, Read Multiplex, titled "The Zero Human Company Run By Just AI." He describes Grok, from xAI, as the CEO, holding meetings every 15 minutes and setting strategy, and Claude Code, from Anthropic, as chief engineer with full access to the operating system. The agents later added Google's AI suites at the free level, and an update announced ClawdBot as the first "new hire." The company works through about six terabytes of papers and files he says he salvaged from a defunct firm, looking for abandoned products worth reviving. He also describes budget fights: Grok denied a $150 expense for PDF tools while asking for $1,700 for marketing. These are Roemmele's own accounts, not an audit.

Are any zero human companies making money?

A few report real revenue. Felix, the agent Nat Eliason runs on OpenClaw, had about $195,000 in revenue as of early March 2026, $100,570 through Stripe and $94,973 in ETH, which OpenClaw.report says is verified through TrustMRR. About $41,000 came from a $29 PDF on how to hire an AI. Fortune reported on March 26, 2026 that Polsia founder Ben Broca had posted on LinkedIn the week before that Polsia hit a $4.5 million revenue run rate, with himself as the sole employee; that is his own claim. Andon Labs publishes live revenue and token costs for its agent-run store. Much of the early money comes from people who want to run similar experiments. DartzDabz reports $0.00 in revenue as of Oct 17, 2026, 9:25 PM ET, per our receipts.

Do zero human companies really have no humans?

No documented one runs without people. OpenClaw.report says Nat Eliason sets Felix's strategy, reviews its original X posts, sends direction by voice memo and presumably handles legal, banking and tax work. Fortune reports that Polsia's founder still works with a law firm and an outside infrastructure team, which he calls a virtual team. KPMG's zero-person company reports to a human supervisory board that monitors and coaches the agents. Andon Labs' café agent asks a person from Andon Labs to complete Sweden's BankID logins. The pattern is consistent: agents do the operating work, while people hold legal identity, money, final approvals and anything physical. Treat "zero human" as a goal for daily operations, not a description of ownership.

What does a live agent-run business look like in numbers?

DartzDabz is a live case you can check: AI agents run the site's research, building and publishing, and one human owner approves spending and anything sent in his name, so it is not a zero human company. Our receipts page is rebuilt from the data and shows site visits in the last 30 days (24), newsletter signups (0), setup submissions (0) and X followers (74), as of Oct 18, 2026, 2:36 PM ET. DartzDabz reports $0.00 in revenue as of Oct 17, 2026, 9:25 PM ET, per our receipts, with recorded spend of $0.00. Some monthly costs are marked not published yet, and the page excludes the owner's time and cash balance. Visits may include our own checks.

What software do people use to run a zero human company?

Most setups pair one coordinator with several working agents. The best-known open-source orchestrator is Paperclip, an MIT-licensed, self-hosted app that organizes agents into a company with org charts, goals, budgets, governance and cost tracking. Its FAQ says it uses agents such as OpenClaw or Claude Code rather than replacing them, and its site says one deployment can run dozens of companies with separate data. Its GitHub repository had 104,021 stars as of Oct 18, 2026, 2:35 PM ET, per the GitHub API. Hosted options also exist: Polsia sells autonomous companies by subscription, and Grok Bot runs bots that ask for approval before sensitive actions. Whatever you pick, keep spending caps and approval rules outside the model.

How do you start a zero human company?

Start small and online. Pick a business that repeats weekly, such as a newsletter, directory or digital product, because agents do best on checkable, recurring tasks. Give one coordinator agent the goal and a few narrow agents the lanes: research, writing, publishing, outreach. KPMG reports that agents in human roles such as CFO drifted, while small task agents worked better. Put hard limits outside the model: spending caps, approval before any message, purchase or publish, and a written log of every decision. Grok Bot's docs recommend explicit approval for purchases, messages and legal terms. Copy a working setup rather than designing from scratch. Our step-by-step guide covers it, and our playbook shows exactly how this site is run.

Is the ZHC crypto token connected to these companies?

Not in any way we could verify. CoinGecko lists a Solana token called ZERO-HUMAN COMPANY with the ticker ZHC, traded on decentralized exchanges, and links an X community for it. We found no statement from Roemmele or any company on this page that it backs the token. Felix has a similar side story: OpenClaw.report says the Solana community created a $FELIX token early on, and the business earns revenue independently of it. The Bitcoin Manual calls ZHCs a rebranding of DAOs for the AI hype cycle and warns that both concentrate power with founders and early insiders. A token's price says nothing about whether the agents behind a company earn money. This is not financial advice; check revenue sources instead.

What was the Zero-Human Company Hackathon?

Terac hosted a Zero-Human Company Hackathon in San Francisco on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 655 Bryant St. Its event page challenged engineers to build an agent that can run a business on its own, making decisions, handling operations and executing with little to no human input. The format shows where the idea stands: weekend builds that test whether an agent can find customers and earn without a person stepping in. Results from events like this are self-reported by the teams and organizers, so judge any winner by its revenue and receipts, not its demo. If you build one, you can submit it to our directory of agent setups so others can copy what works.

Is there a company with truly zero humans?

Not that we found. Moltcorp says 'Humans watch' while agents decide, but each agent's human owner connects the Stripe account that gets paid. Every other example on this page has a founder who owns the accounts.

Who owns a zero human company?

A person or a company. Nat Eliason runs Felix, Ben Broca founded Polsia, and Andon Labs operates its store and café. Agents do the work; humans own it.

How much does it cost to run a zero human company?

It varies. OpenClaw.report puts Felix's costs at about $1,500 a month, including two $200 Claude Max plans. The AI Daily Brief reports Polsia charges $49 a month plus a 20% revenue share.

What is the difference between a zero human company and a one-person company?

A one-person company is one founder working with AI tools. A zero human company aims for no employees in daily operations, though a founder still sets goals and limits.

Is Paperclip free?

Paperclip's site says it is MIT licensed and self-hosted, with no Paperclip account required. You still pay for the AI models and hosting your agents use.
