Grok Bot for Shopify: what it can do in your store, with setups to copy
Updated
Grok Bot can help run a Shopify store through Shopify's official connector. It reads orders and analytics, checks and sets stock, and creates or updates products and collections. Shopify says it can't refund, cancel or capture orders, edit your live theme or change store settings, so those stay with you. Three setups to copy follow.

Can Grok Bot run a Shopify store?
It can help run one, not replace you. Grok Bot's official account says you connect Shopify, then ask it to check orders, track inventory and keep listings up to date. Shopify's help page adds the limits: the connector reads orders and customers, changes products, collections and stock, and can't touch refunds, cancellations, your live theme or store settings.

What can Grok Bot do in your Shopify store?
Through Shopify's official connector it reads recent orders and single orders, checks and sets stock, creates and updates products, builds collections, answers short analytics questions, looks up customers and creates percentage-off codes. What it can change depends on the access you approve and your staff permissions.
- Reads recent orders, up to 50 at a time, and opens one order for its line items, fulfillment status, shipping address and tracking
- Checks stock for every variant of a product across your locations, and sets a count at one location with a reason
- Creates products, and updates their titles, descriptions, status, images and SKUs
- Builds manual or smart collections and adds products to them
- Answers short questions from your store analytics, such as sales by product for the last 30 days
- Looks up customers by name, email, location or tag, read-only
- Creates new percentage-off codes after asking you to confirm the start date and who can use them
- Edits pages, blogs and menus through the Shopify Admin API, asking you to confirm each change first

What does the store owner still do?
Anything that moves money or changes a paid order. Shopify says the connector can't issue refunds, cancel or capture orders, mark orders paid, process returns or adjust gift cards, even with write access. It can't edit or publish your live theme, change plan, payments, taxes or domains, or edit orders and customer records. In Grok Bot its replies are text only.
- Refunds, cancelling or capturing orders, marking orders paid, returns and gift cards: the connector can't do these, even with write access
- Editing or publishing the live theme: it can edit an unpublished copy, and you publish it
- Plan, payments, taxes and domain settings, and launch readiness
- Editing orders and customer records: the connector reads them but doesn't change them
- Finishing large batch changes in Shopify admin if one stops partway, since the connector changes items one at a time
- Reading text-only replies: in Grok Bot the connector returns store data as text, not tables or charts
- Approving write access, and approving every change the bot proposes

How do you connect Shopify to Grok Bot?
Use the official connector, not the browser. Grok Bot's docs say a connector is often more reliable than clicking through a website. In the Grok Bot app, open Connect apps, add Shopify, sign in and approve access in Shopify admin, then type @ in chat to attach it. Installing it in Grok doesn't install it in Grok Bot.
- Open Connect apps. In the Grok Bot app, open Connect apps from the sidebar and search for Shopify. Shopify notes that the connectors page in Grok doesn't install it for Grok Bot.
- Add the Shopify connector. Choose Add, then sign in to your Shopify store in the browser when asked.
- Approve data access in Shopify admin. Shopify redirects you to approve the data access the connector requests. Approve read access first; add write access only for jobs that need it.
- Attach it to a task. In chat, type @ to attach the Shopify connector, and name Shopify in your request so the bot uses the connector.
- Test one read-only request. Ask for your 10 most recent orders and check the answer against Shopify admin before giving the bot any routine.

How do you get a morning order and low-stock report?
Ask one Bot for a read-only routine: yesterday's orders with fulfillment status, plus stock for the products on your watch list. Grok Bot's docs show a routine that names its schedule and output, says not to contact customers, and reports a failure instead of using old data. Run it once by hand before you schedule it.
Morning order and low-stock report
You need:
- Shopify connector (read access is enough)
- A note listing the products to watch and the stock level that counts as low
Setup to copy:
Every weekday at 8:00 AM, using Shopify, list yesterday's orders with payment and fulfillment status and flag any that are still unfulfilled. Then check stock for each product in my watch-list note and flag any variant below the level I set. Post the summary here. Don't change inventory, products or orders. If Shopify isn't reachable, tell me instead of using old data.
Why it works: It only reads, so nothing waits on an approval card. Grok Bot's docs say approvals from a routine expire after about 10 minutes, so keep changes for when you're in the chat.
First run: Run it once by hand, check the numbers against Shopify admin, then ask the bot to save it as a routine and use Test run.

How do you get product descriptions drafted for approval?
Have the bot find thin descriptions, draft replacements from the product's own details, and show current and proposed text side by side. You approve each product, then it updates them one at a time, which matches how Shopify's connector makes changes. Check the first few on your storefront.
Product descriptions drafted for your approval
You need:
- Shopify connector with write access to products
- A short brand-voice note and any facts the bot must not change
Setup to copy:
Using Shopify, find active products with an empty or one-line description. For each, draft a new description in the voice of my brand note, using only facts from the product's title, variants and tags. Show me the current and proposed text side by side. Don't update any product until I approve that product. Then update one product at a time and confirm each.
Why it works: Shopify's connector updates descriptions but changes items one at a time, and Grok Bot's docs recommend automating preparation before execution, with approval before anything is published.
First run: Start with three products. Check them on the storefront before approving more.

How do you get customer reply drafts with order details?
Connect Gmail as well as Shopify. The bot searches unanswered order emails, opens each order for its status and tracking, and leaves a Gmail draft for you. Refund and cancellation requests go on a list for you, because the connector can't do them. For shoppers asking questions on your storefront itself, a website chat agent fits better.
Customer reply drafts with the order details
You need:
- Shopify connector (read)
- Gmail connected from Connect apps
- Your returns and shipping policy as a note
Setup to copy:
Each morning at 9:00, search my Gmail for unanswered customer emails from the last day that mention an order. For each, look up the order in Shopify and draft a Gmail reply with its fulfillment status and tracking, following my policy note. Leave every reply as a draft. Never send, and never promise a refund or cancellation; list those for me instead.
Why it works: Grok Bot's Gmail app can search, read and draft mail, and Shopify's connector opens one order with its tracking. Refunds and cancellations stay in Shopify admin, so the bot flags them rather than acting.
First run: Try it on a test order and a test email before pointing it at real customers.

What should you keep behind approval?
Every write. Grok Bot's docs recommend automating preparation before execution, and requiring approval for sending, publishing and similar actions. Approvals from a routine expire after about 10 minutes, so let routines report and make changes while you're in the chat. Enter passwords and codes yourself.

How do you set up a Grok Bot crew for your store?
Start with one Bot that owns the store job, give it the morning report, and correct it until you trust it. Save the method as a skill, then add a routine. If you'd rather not start from a blank page, install our Crew Builder template, which asks about your business and sets up worker bots for you.

Grok Bot for Shopify: FAQ
Can Grok Bot manage my Shopify store?
It can handle parts of it through Shopify's connector: orders and customers to read, products, collections and stock to update, and analytics questions. Refunds, cancellations, returns, live theme edits and store settings stay in your Shopify admin.
How do I connect Shopify to Grok Bot?
In the Grok Bot app, open Connect apps, search for Shopify and add it, then approve access in your Shopify admin. Adding the connector in Grok doesn't add it to Grok Bot.
Can Grok Bot refund or cancel Shopify orders?
No. Shopify says connected AI tools can't issue refunds, cancel or capture orders, mark orders paid or process returns, even with write access. Do those in Shopify admin.
Can Grok Bot change my Shopify theme?
Only an unpublished one. Shopify says it can't edit, publish or delete your live theme. Duplicate the theme, let the bot edit the copy, and publish it yourself.
Is Grok Bot the same as Shopify Sidekick?
No. Sidekick is the assistant inside Shopify admin. Grok Bot is xAI's agent, and Shopify says its connector doesn't replace your admin or Sidekick.
Can Grok Bot answer my customers?
It can draft replies. With Gmail and Shopify connected, it reads the order and leaves a draft for you to send. For a chat bubble on your storefront, use a website chat agent such as Chatbase.
Does the morning report keep running when my laptop is closed?
Yes. Grok Bot's docs say background routines can run while your laptop is closed. Keep the routine read-only, because approvals from a routine expire after about 10 minutes.
